This month's success story highlights specifically the molding industry and their need for high temperature sensors located in areas where standard performance range temperature sensors would be continuously replaced thus adding costs, labor and downtime.
Our customer, a custom molder for the medical industry, manufactures overmolded tubing products for use in the ophthalmologist's office. These overmolded parts are made on a mold with seven sensors measuring a variety of positions: the slides, both upper and lower when open and close, verify when home for the screws to release, and send the signal to the clutch for the hydraulic pump to release.
Their issue was that at the temperature they are running the mold, anywhere from 180⁰C - 220⁰C, they were continuously replacing the standard sensors that were only capable of much lower temperatures. This not only caused significant material and labor costs, but as luck would have it, would occur usually at the end of a shift Friday or over the weekend, and they would run out of sensor stock. They would have to wait until Monday when it could be purchased and replaced. This downtime was impacting their plant efficiency and their on-time delivery performance. Obviously, customers were not being satisfied.
The solution was to incorporate into their application the High Temperature sensors from ASI which can tolerate temperatures up to 230⁰C and beyond. This solved their costs, labor and downtime issues once and done. Considering the high costs of skilled labor in the mold making industry today, this was a significant savings for this customer to incorporate into their design.
Our High Temperature sensor range is available in sizes M8, M12, M18, M30 and M50. Styles in include standard and short housings, PNP N.O. & N.C & NPN N.O. & N.C. output with a variety of sensing ranges up to 30mm. The sensors are available with either silicone or Teflon cable in 2, 5 or 10 meter standard lengths or any custom length your application may require. Made from corrosion resistant, rugged stainless steel housing material, these sensors are durable under the harshest of environments. Other features in include reverse circuit and polarity protection, they are calibrated for life, so that no user adjustments necessary, and are available shielded or non-shielded.
In addition to the above, all high temperature sensors up to 180°C/356°F have fully integrated amplifiers, offer high RFI/EMC performance and a built-in target LED. The HT series of high temperature sensors are also offered in silicone free models for use in the automotive and aeronautical painting industries.
