DC Surge Protective Devices for Photovoltaic Applications
Photovoltaic applications are found within the Solar Industry. It is important to protect Photovoltaic (PV) Panels from surge to allow maximum ROI to the investors. By far, the biggest culprit of electrical surges rendering damage to solar panels is direct and indirect lightning strikes to the system.
ASI offers DC Surge Protection Devices in two variations. These SPDs are designed and built with Protection Mode variations of "Common Mode DC surge protection" and "Common & Differential Mode DC Surge Protection".
The "Common Mode DC" surge protection devices utilize patented thermally protected MOV (Metal Oxide Varistors) Technology. These devices are UL recognized to UL 1449, 4th Edition, Type 4 for use in Type 1, 2 and 3 applications. As well, KEMA Certification: IEC 61643-11:2013, Class C (II) has been attained. Device selection can be made from either 500V or 600V Nominal Voltage with Maximum Continuous Operating Voltage of 550V or 745V respectively. Both have a Maximum Discharge Current (8/20) Imax of 50kA.
Standard features on the "Common Mode DC" devices include:
Visual Indication: Green=OK, Red=Replace
Integrated keying prevents plug/base voltage mis-mating errors at the time of replacement.
Remote alarm contact to make status monitoring easy.
ASI also carries "Common & Differential Mode DC" surge protection devices that incorporate patented thermally protected MOV (Metal Oxide Varistors) Technology. These devices are UL 1449, 4th Edition Recognized, Type 4 and are KEMA Certified: IEC 61643-11:2013, Class C (II). Selection can be made from 600V, 750V, 1000V or 1200V. The group offers a Nominal Discharge Current (8/20) In 20kA.
